We live in Edwardstown, which is halfway between the City and Glenelg.
We recommend staying in Glenelg for the main part of your time in Adelaide; there are plenty of hotels and airbnb's, with loads of restaurants and bars, and easy access to travel between Glenelg and the City via tram.

Airbnb: Search Glenelg and Somerton Park, as they are walking distance to the heart of Glenelg (Jetty Road).
For wedding night accommodation, see the Wedding Night Accommodation tab, as we have some alternate options given the wedding venue is situated approximately 40 - 45 minutes from Glenelg and the City.
FLIGHTS
It's a long flight... but we've done it many times.
Qantas will take you direct from major cities in the USA, such as Dallas, LA and New York with a stop in one of the major Australian capital cities, usually Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. We would recommend you avoid Sydney as the domestic and international airport are separate terminals and you will need transfer between the two terminals. Qantas provides a transfer shuttle; however, not all airlines offer this service, which can make the transit more challenging.
Coming from Europe, Qatar and Emirates fly directly into Adelaide with a stopover in either Doha or Dubai.
If you have a stop in Australia prior to arriving in Adelaide, you will need to clear immigration and customs in your city of arrival into Australia. As you need to clear customs, you will need to collect your luggage then make your way to the domestic terminal and re-check your luggage.
If you buy duty free as part of your international sector, you CAN take this on your domestic flight, even liquids, as are not restrictions on liquids on Australian domestic flights.
When you leave Australia, once you have cleared immigration, you can purchase drinks / food for the flight. There are also water fountains throughout the terminal to fill up your drink bottle.
Australia has very strict quarantine rules, so make sure you declare anything that you are bringing in - your landing card will provide more information, these will be distributed on your flight as you arrive into Australia.
VISA REQUIREMENTS
US and European citizens will require an eTA visa to enter Australia, which can be obtained online and allows you to stay in Australia for 90 days. It costs $20AUD and in most cases, is approved immediately.

WHAT TO PACK
January is the middle of summer; it can get extremely hot. Our climate is a dry heat, with very little humidity and we work on celcius, not fahrenheit. Temperatures can range from low 30's (low to mid 90's) right up to 40 degrees (approx 105).
Adelaide is also pretty casual, we don't dress up too much so if you're eating out, dress shorts and casual shoes are fine for the boys (i.e. nice sneakers, birkenstocks, slides etc)... girls are fine with a dress or shorts - we don't wear heels much either. Smart casual is more than fine for more upscale restaurants.
You'll need plenty of swimsuits and hats (even for the ladies), and we recommend you purchase sunscreen here as our sun hits different. Between the hours of 11am and 4pm, the sun is very strong with a high UV index. If you're prone to getting sunburned, we recommend SPF50 and a hat.... even if you're not, our sun is a lot stronger so I would err on the side of caution.
Our electricity is 240volt which means for those coming from the USA, your small electrical appliances like laptop chargers, hair dryers, hair straighteners etc will blow up when plugged in (from Europe, you're ok).
Phone chargers are ok.
Most hotels will at least have a hair dryer in your room as well as an iron for clothing.
Tipping is not customary in Australia, so there is no expectation to tip staff at restaurants, bars, hotels etc. We will generally only tip if the service/food/experience was well above standard. If you do want to tip after a fantastic meal, even a $20AUD tip would make the waiters night.
Australian Currency is worth a lot less than the US dollar and Euro, so while the prices may seem more expensive, you'll still be paying a lot less due to the exchange rate. All taxes are included in the ticket price, so no additional charges when you pay your bill. The exchange rates sit around $1.00USD = $1.55AUD and $1.00EU = $1.65AUD.
